I had a wonderful time filming Ballet Hispanico‘s dancers in performance at the Apollo Theater last December. The theater is one of the city’s true gems – a historic place that makes watching dance feel like a true gathering of the community – and it’s an honor to film in that environment.

The evening featured three premieres and live music by the Paquito D’Rivera Ensemble. Tango Vitrola by Alejandro Cervera and A Vueltas con los Ochenta by Meritxell Barberá and Inma García, showcased the dancers in different ways, but an especially magical moment for me was when clarinetist Paquita was improvising on stage with one of the dancers.

Here’s a 1-minute video of dancer Mario Ismael Espinoza interacting with Paquito in Danzon, a work by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro.
