For the last three years, Christopher and I have been attending Capacity Interactive’s Digital Marketing Boot Camp for the Arts.

Our marketing manager Amy Jacobus comes with, and we soak in all of the incredible inspiration of how creative and strategic arts organizations can be with marketing today.

We’ve also sponsored the conference—filming, livestreaming and editing the talks—for two years now. We’re so excited to be able to share pieces of the conference with people who can’t attend!

CI’s Boot Camp offers so many lessons for arts organizations on how to use digital marketing to attract new audiences and build loyalty to their brand. Aubrey Bergauer’s talk on bringing in younger audiences to California Symphony is a lesson on trying new things, listening carefully, and not taking things personally but as opportunities to improve. Bookmark this one and definitely spend the hour watching. It’s really worth it!!!

Last fall, I was especially inspired by two of their speakers.

Seth Godin, a marketing expert Christopher, Amy and I have been following for years, gave an excellent talk about marketing to your true tribe. Being ok with not being for everyone, and pulling out all the stops for the ones who do resonate with what you do.
We take customer appreciation really seriously at NSP. We practice gratitude and spend a lot of our marketing and project management energy on making sure our clients are supported. Seth’s talk was music to our ears. We’re on the right track! (If you want to absorb more of Seth’s knowledge—subscribe to his blogwhich he writes daily!!)
Author and designer Bonnie Siegler talked about her book “Dear Client: This Book Will Teach You How to Get What You Want from Creative Peopleand everything she said hit home. This book is SO GOOD. I wanted to buy it for everyone I know!!!
If you choose to work in a creative field (that’s all of us!), you probably are more sensitive, less routine, desire more freedom, and get a lot of feedback as part of your job. Bonnie’s book will help you communicate with your fellow creatives. And make you laugh. It’s gold.
Follow Capacity Interactive on YouTube for more wisdom from Boot Camp. Here’s another of our favorites (an oldie but goodie). 😉
