Bold, beautiful, and full of heart, Urban Bush Women brings untold and under-told stories to light through dance and we love them for it. We were so thrilled to help them with their 30th anniversary gala fundraising video! 30 years!! Wow!!
Artistic director Jawole Willa Jo Zollar was deeply inspired by charity: water’s 2009 fundraising campaign video. charity: water told such a beautiful story, and motivated people to give more than their money, but also their energy and loyalty and time. Urban Bush Women wanted to make a similar video that would tell their story. Having seen charity: water talk about their campaigns and videos at the Capacity Interactive Digital Marketing Boot Camp, we couldn’t resist this project!
Urban Bush Women’s story spans thirty years of dance making, traveling, community engagement, and unstoppable learning. Their mantra – Research, Do, Delve Deeper, Learn – has made their movement strong, powerful, and full of hope.
This project was full circle for me. One of my very first jobs in NYC over 14 years ago was working at Urban Bush Women. My work with UBW gave me strength and power to move forward in filming dance. I salute Jawole and everyone at Urban Bush Women. I feel like they are family.
