Celebrating 45 Years of Dance Exchange | Virtual Dance Festival
Did you join Dance Exchange for their Dance On Festival?!
The Dance On Festival celebrates aging with dance, creativity, and connection. It is normally hosted as an in-person event, but as the world pivoted to virtual offerings, Dance Exchange pivoted, too.
Cassie Meador (Executive Artistic Director) and EJ Levine (Director of Partnerships and Associate Artistic Director) came to us with their vision of what the festival could feel like online, and my team and I partnered with them to build that vision from the ground up!
It was so fulfilling to help them deliver a special donor event, an exciting 45th anniversary performance, and 8 engaging festival sessions to GATHER, MAKE & MOVE together. Registrants could attend:
- Virtual performances created by intergenerational artists across Dance Exchange’s legacy
- Online movement classes and creative workshops
- Panels and conversations on intergenerational creative collaboration, the art of caregiving, addressing social isolation, and the many ways older adults dance on
We made a promotional video and collaborated with Amanda Newman (Dance Exchange Communications Manager) to build the entire Dance On Festival on Dance Exchange’s Squarespace website, using Zoom and YouTube events for every Festival session. Participants could interact live on Zoom or watch later on the web.
It has been such a huge joy to bring this to life with the Dance Exchange team.

Nel Shelby is Owner & Filmmaker for Nel Shelby Productions, her New York City-based company dedicated to dance videography and editing. Nel shares her mission to preserve and promote the art of dance with her husband, Christopher Duggan, a dance and wedding photographer. They collaborate on projects with dance companies of worldwide renown, up-and-coming choreographers, dance educators, dance schools and more. Nel is Video Producer at Jacob’s Pillow and Vail Dance Festival and is also the proud Director and Producer of PS DANCE! — a New York Emmy-nominated documentary about dance education in NYC’s public schools.
