Dance education is at the forefront of my mind in terms of making a difference in the world and in the country.
When I think about my purpose, dance education is what I continue to be inspired by and involved in.
I completely admire all the dance educators I’ve worked with through the years at Dance Education Laboratory (DEL). I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for doing what you do — for creating, for being creative, for spreading joy even when you might not think you are.
What we do is at the core of what keeps us all moving. We are helping get more dance in schools so that children can exercise their minds and bodies and find joy in every day life. We are helping dance companies get more work so that more audiences can be inspired, moved and uplifted. And most importantly, we are doing work we love to do. We work our butts off to create and support dance because it makes life make more sense. This is the silver lining in a difficult fall, and I am inspired to be more of service.

Nel Shelby is Owner & Filmmaker for Nel Shelby Productions, her New York City-based company dedicated to dance videography and editing. Nel shares her mission to preserve and promote the art of dance with her husband, Christopher Duggan, a dance and wedding photographer. They collaborate on projects with dance companies of worldwide renown, up-and-coming choreographers, dance educators, dance schools and more. Nel is Video Producer at Jacob’s Pillow and Vail Dance Festival and is also the proud Director and Producer of PS DANCE! — a New York Emmy-nominated documentary about dance education in NYC’s public schools.
