Inside the Pillow Lab | Dance Residency Program at Jacob’s Pillow
Step inside the Pillow Lab at Jacob’s Pillow to get an exclusive look at your favorite choreographer’s creative approach.
The Pillow Lab is a 10 day in-person COVID-19-compliant dance residency program that supports artists during crucial development, research, and technical stages of choreography-driven projects.
Jacob’s Pillow’s new Associate Curators Melanie George and Ali Rosa-Salas have selected the fall 2020 Pillow Lab artists: Brian Brooks/The Moving Company, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, Emily Johnson/CATALYST, and Shamel Pitts/TRIBE.
My team and I have been working with each Pillow Lab artist to create short dance films to be featured on Jacob’s Pillow’s YouTube channel, which will offer an intimate look into each of their processes.
I’m feeling so privileged to help Jacob’s Pillow share these artist’s stories.
Because of COVID-19, we were not able to film in-person. So, my team members and I collaborated with the artists and their dancers to brainstorm what type of footage would be best.
Once the artists felt they had enough footage, they handed it over to us and we sorted through it all. There was so much content. So many stories to tell! Luckily, storytelling through video is one of our strongest assets! 😉
Producing these dance films in collaboration with the Pillow Lab artists and Jacob’s Pillow’s team has been one of the highlights of 2020-21. This is a huge opportunity for these artists, especially during COVID-19 – nearly all of them haven’t stepped foot inside a studio space with other dancers in months. We cannot take anything for granted.
