I feel so lucky to work beneath the exhibit space in Blake’s Barn curated every summer by the one and only Norton Owen, Jacob’s Pillow’s very own Director of Preservation. Norton asked me to film at Lois’s studio and I jumped at the chance!!
Lois Greenfield’s images are iconic. She is a masterful dance photographer, and I had the honor, privilege and pleasure of filming a behind-the-scenes video of her in the studio with my husband Christopher Duggan.
It’s about this magic moment that neither she nor I conceive of… Taking a picture without any forethought or layout allows me to get beyond my imagination.
Christopher and I visited Lois’s studio to make a video of her at work that could accompany her Moving Still photo exhibit at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. (She has a new book titled Moving Still out now.) We were in awe of her process!! Lois trusts that each dance artist she photographs brings something unique to the table and uses that to create something gorgeous and special.
I’m so happy to share this promo video – but stay tuned! Norton and I working to make a longer film that is showing as a part of the photography exhibit for Moving Still.
If you are at Jacob’s Pillow this summer, please come to Blake’s Barn to see Lois’s work. Her images are an inspiration!!
