At the Vail International Dance Festival this summer Damian Woetzel asked me to create “the making-of” Canvas by Larry Keigwin. He specifically wanted to make this behind-the-scenes dance video because this was Larry’s return to Vail and to celebrate he grouped Keigwin + Company with four New York City Ballet dancers, Robbie Fairchild, Tiler Peck, Lauren Lovette and Daniel Ulbricht.
It was a very interesting combination to have the entire Keigwin dance company working with New York City Ballet dancers, and Larry partnered the ballet dancers with his company members throughout the dance. We followed them the entire week, filming rehearsals and shooting interviews, and then we put together what we think is an amazing piece.
