Limón Dance Company’s Full Season Film Shoot with Photography, Too! | Promo Film
Limón Dance Company performed at The Joyce last week, but they’ve been working on video & photos for their Joyce season since last fall!
Even though we’ve talked about it on social media and other blogs in snippets, we just can’t get over how much valuable content Limón Dance Company got from their video footage and photos. Having one session to create loads of media is such a great thing for dance companies short on time and/or with smaller budgets, so I want to share how all of this beautiful season video and photography came together in the first place.
I hope more and more artists and dance companies will be impressed and excited about the possibilities in putting in place a more systematized approach to season video and photography!!
Colin Connor, Limón Dance Company’s new Artistic Director, approached us last fall with a vision of doing a full-day photo and video shoot with the company. Christopher Duggan Productions and Nel Shelby Productions teamed up to produce professional dance video footage and portrait photography, getting footage and photos of Limón’s upcoming seasonal rep.
A lot of planning went into what dances we captured, how we captured it (in a professionally produced performance-like setting complete with lighting design by Philip Treviño), how many videographers and what equipment we used, set-up and lighting for photography, and on and on…
Collaboration in Dance Video & Photography
This collaborative process and single day’s shoot went on to help the company create a full season’s worth of smart, engaging, beautiful promotional material. Using some of our raw footage they’ve created a full introduce-the-dancer series spotlighting their company members, they’ve edited a promo for different works they’re performing at The Joyce and a Joyce season trailer. They’ve used photography on their website, social media and more.
It’s incredibly satisfying to see how advanced planning, heart and hard work can really make a difference in showcasing a company’s work! We can’t wait to see what happens next!
