Performance Videos | Abraham.In.Motion at The Joyce Theater
Last fall, Caroline and I had the pleasure of filming Abraham.In.Motion at The Joyce Theater.
Before the performance, I was in touch with Hillary, Abraham.In.Motion’s General Manager, to plan out how to capture the performance in the best way possible. Kyle Abraham and his team are clear to communicate and know exactly what they want, so working with them feels efficient and productive. We really enjoy working with them!!!
When we watched dress rehearsal, I noticed that Kyle’s 9 person choir (which was INCREDIBLE, by the way!!!) weren’t lit enough – it was pretty dark on stage, but I knew it was important to capture their performance just as much as it was to capture the dancers. I spoke to Kyle about it, he spoke to the lighting director, and they bumped up the lights. Clear communication is key!!!
I’m always impressed with Abraham.In.Motion, and this show did not disappoint. Kyle Abraham premiered two new works, which were stunning as always, one of the company dancers choreographed the opening piece, and a few dancers of the company performed a Trisha Brown piece titled Solo Olos from 1976.
Enjoy these three fun snippets from Abraham.In.Motion’s performance at The Joyce!!!
“This past summer, I had the opportunity to watch and film Abraham.In.Motion’s performance at Jacob’s Pillow. I had never seen the company perform before and I loved it so much I watched the performance 3 times. I was in awe – the dancers, the movement, the music, the lights. The show was brilliant.
I was so excited when Nel asked me to film A.I.M with her in NYC at the Joyce Theater! Each piece proved to be different from one another, truly showing the talent of the dancers and their ability to take on different styles of choreography with ease. I am looking forward to watching the company perform many more times in the future (and hopefully get to document it again, too)!”
