Choreographer Reggie Wilson came to Nel Shelby Productions with all of his own video footage about the making of his new dance Moses(es) for his company Reggie Wilson/Fist & Heel Performance Group. He wanted to turn his footage into a dance documentary, but didn’t know where to begin. I was at Jacob’s Pillow and Vail International Dance Festival for the summer, so my trusted editor Jessica Ray took on the project of editing the video into a dance documentary with Reggie in our Manhattan studio. It took all summer, because we really had to dive in to what this dance is about and what was most important to share about this piece from all the video Reggie had given to us.

We also recently filmed Fist & Heel Performance Group’s show in Philadelphia. Soon we’ll have a sizzle reel we created together from our footage of the performance. It’s a pleasure to work with Reggie because he’s very detail oriented, has a real sense of timing and he doesn’t just want to choreograph his dances, he wants to choreograph the video as well. He wants the video to really complement the dance, and we love that.

See the company perform Moses(es) December 4-7 at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)!
