Walter Dundervill’s SKYBOX at New York Live Arts | Promotional Video

We’ve had the pleasure of working with NYLA for many years now – and we have a great partnership! We work directly with Lili Dirks-Goodman, NYLA’s marketing director. What we love about Lili is that she understands the importance of storytelling and sharing the process of making dances.
These days we all want to feel even more connection, we want to know what is behind what we see. Along with Lili, we have been making short videos to tell a mini story of what the audience will see on stage. Lili uses these videos to push the performances out on social media to share with her fan base and beyond and get them interested in purchasing tickets.
We also film many performances at NYLA to document the work for artists. Lili finds it important – just as we do! – to capture these performances for the artists and for the future. With performance documentation, the artists can use the footage to continue to book work.
“I conflate the visual and choreographic aspects of dance into an arena where both have equal value, bringing the background materials of visual décor to the foreground while allowing the performance of the dance to recede. This creates a push/pull effect, encouraging the viewer to continually shift focus throughout the experience. In this way, my performances function as living temporal objects in which people and materials merge and interact.” – Walter Dundervill
This short video we made for Walter Dundervill’s SKYBOX (premiering at NYLA on October 20 and running through October 22) is one example of what we film and edit for NYLA.
And we work with NYLA to create a timeline that means all of the videos we produce will be ready for use in their marketing well in advance. This way, they aren’t scrambling last minute to get video views and sell tickets.
PS: We know that Walter is currently raising money on Kickstarter. If you’re interested in donating to help support SKYBOX, visit this link.
