Making a Dance Documentary with Nejla Y. Yatkin
Four years ago, I was invited to join critically-acclaimed choreographer, performer and dance teacher Nejla Y. Yatkin on her dance company’s tour through Central America. Throughout the trip, Nejla opens up about her personal passion for dance and the conflicts it has posed within her family and community.
We’ve already filmed hours of performances, dance classes and personal interviews in Central America, and now we are trying to raise $10,000 by December 20 to create a film from our footage.
If we can raise the first $3,000 by October 31, we will receive $500 towards our overall goal in matched funds!!
Please Support The Making of This Dance Documentary
Your donation will fund our work in the editing room and support the creative team involved in this project. We have an incredible composer who created original music for our trailer who will compose the score for the film. Contributions support creating a storyboard and outline, hours of editing video and sound, translating interviews from Spanish to English, color correction, motion graphics and rounds of feedback from our creative team.
Visit our Hatchfund Project page by clicking on the video below. Watch our trailer and help us finally turn this incredible footage into a film.
Thank You for Your Support!
The documentary will be a half-hour special, and once produced, will be submitted to national and international film festivals and local broadcast channels. We hope to host a New York City preview screening for close friends, fellow artists and YOU – our wonderful supporters – at a date and location to be determined after production.
