Alvin Ailey’s “Cry”
A pinch me moment happened recently when we filmed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for a full week.
One of the works we filmed was in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cry. This piece, made by Alvin Ailey in 1971 on Judith Jamison, was made for his mother for her Birthday. How special!!
He dedicated the piece to “all Black women everywhere– especially our mothers.” 😍
We filmed the new version of Cry featuring the gorgeous Jacqueline Green. We worked with Matthew Rushing, Ronni Favors and Ms. Jamison (who was remote).
It was a glorious experience in the studio filming. I have such a deep respect for AAADT. Our entire team felt so at home with everyone.
Ailey released the newly filmed version this past weekend for Mother’s Day, and the performance is available to stream on Ailey All Access through May 23 at 7pm ET.
Keep an eye out for more beautiful Ailey dancing!!!
